Racial equity has a lineage that has appeared as cultural competency, diversity training, cultural humility, and anti-blackness. Each reiteration has sought to chip away at racism in America and over a 25-year period, Arboreta has experienced each wave towards progress. We believe awareness is only one ingredient for change. Awareness must be paired with concrete measurable actions that are linked to accountability. Authentic racial equity requires deep reflection and understanding on both the individual and group levels, collaboration with community, and a plan to make changes and share power; these elements are the foundation pieces of our racial equity work. We can help your organization live its values by developing a concrete plan that moves your organization towards its equity goals. With over 55 years of combined experienced in the nonprofit sector, we have a long and deep history in applying for and managing government contracts. We have brought that expertise to our business both in helping our clients navigate that world (ie. grant-writing and contract management) and in managing our own direct contracts with government entities. To-date we have successfully applied for and completed government contracts that have created health education and leadership development programs for communities; increased the capacity of community based organizations to be effective advocates for policy, systems, and environmental change for their communities; and conducted needs assessments with the most vulnerable and often marginalized segments of the community.
